IS DRIP IRRIGATION HELPFUL??

Image
DRIP IRRIGATION: HELPFUL OR NOT                 What is drip irrigation? Drip irrigation is the most efficient water and nutrient delivery system for growing crops. It delivers water and nutrients directly to the plant’s roots zone, in the right amounts, at the right time, so each plant gets exactly what it needs, when it needs it, to grow optimally. Thanks to drip irrigation, farmers can produce higher yields while saving on water as well as fertilizers, energy and even crop protection products. How does it work? Water and nutrients are delivered across the field in pipes called ‘dripperlines’ featuring smaller units known as ‘drippers’. Each dripper emits drops containing water and fertilizers, resulting in the uniform application of water and nutrients direct to each plant's root zone, across an entire field. Why do farmers prefer drip irrigation? The reason is simple. Drip Irrigation not only delivers greater ROI compared t

NEW TECHNIQUES IN AGRICULTURE

Image
NEW TECHNIQUES IN AGRICULTURE- In recent years, the adoption of digital technologies in precision agriculture has been adjusting the ways that farmers treat crops and manage fields. One doesn’t have to be an expert to see how the technology has changed the concept of farming making it more profitable, efficient, safer, and simple. Among other technologies, farmers have picked five they deem to be the best: GIS software and GPS agriculture Satellite imagery Drone and other aerial imagery Farming software and online data Merging datasets As a result, modern farms get significant benefits from the ever-evolving digital agriculture. These benefits include reduced consumption of water, nutrients, and fertilizer, reduced negative impact on the surrounding ecosystem, reduced chemical runoff into local groundwater and rivers, better efficiency, reduced prices, and many more. Thereby, business becomes cost-effective, smart, and sustainable. Let’s discuss

5 STEPS TO INCREASE PRODUCTIVITY OF CROPS

5 Key Measures to Improve Farming Productivity If you want to improve your farming productivity and increase profits, you must know where to start. Agrivi brings you 5 key farming measures that you should apply first. 1. Smart water management Using of drop by drop or sprinkler irrigation systems you can increase crop yields up to 50 percent. 2. Varieties selection Improved heat tolerant varieties allow the plant to maintain yields at higher temperatures.  Heat tolerant varieties could increase crop yields from up to 23 percent. 3. Conservation tillage By applying conservation tillage practices, you save time, fuel and machinery wear. This results in increasing profits up to US$ 100 per ha. 4. Nitrogen Nitrogen is the key element needed for good plant growth. Efficient use of nitrogen can increase crop yields by 22 percent. 5. Farm management software Managing your farm without tracking everything you do is like driving a car with a blindfold. Farm managem

IMPROVEMENTS IN FARMING

Image
Improvements in Agricultural Technology Increase Farm Yields By 2050, the world’s population will exceed 9 billion people – a projected growth of more than 30 % and amounting to an estimated 2.3 billion more people to feed. Farmers will need to produce the same amount of food over the next four decades that produced over the past 8,000 years. Consequently, farmers need access to better tools and farm practices that enable them to produce more with less. The food system of the future will look different than it does today. People are increasingly moving away from where food is grown and are less aware of how it is grown. By 2050, an estimated 70 % of people will be living in urban areas, creating the need for processing and storage technology, sound infrastructure, efficient distribution channels and open trade policies. The uneven distribution of arable land around the globe means that farmers will need to freely and efficiently move food and access market

India’s Biggest Challenge: The Future of Farming

Image
India’s Biggest Challenge: The Future of Farming India has enough food; does it have too many people working in agriculture? The pressure on land is an outcome of policy, which condemns most people to marginal farming. India needs a different set of solutions for agriculture and for those working the land. India is an agricultural country. Agriculture is “only”  ~16 % of GDP  but the largest sector for employment. Officially farmers are only a few hundred million, but adding family members who help or occasionally farm, as also wage labourers, the number of farm workers is likely to be closer to half a billion people. But how many people would India need farming if it were as labour efficient as the US for growing crops? I am not suggesting it is possible, or even desirable (large, mechanised farms with massive chemical and water inputs) but as a thought exercise? Just four million people.  The US is extreme; with less than 2% of its population
